Michael E. Mayo

Michael Mayo devotes his practice to helping individuals harmed by the negligence of others. He has handled catastrophic cases against hospitals, commercial trucking companies, financial institutions, insurance companies, and medical groups.

Mr. Mayo is the eldest of three children to Earl and Kim Mayo. Growing up in South Georgia, Mr. Mayo shoveled chicken manure in the blazing sun during summers on Jack Brantley’s worm farm in Ambrose, Georgia. The pay was not great, but it was honest, and Mrs. Lucy’s lunches made up for any shortcomings. Mr. Mayo later took his talents to Beaver Kreek Golf Club where he worked as a laborer during school breaks, learning from the mentorship of legends like Wayne & Linda Johnson, Richard Peterson, Larry Hanson, and countless war veterans. Mr. Mayo also worked at the factories, unclogged swamps, moved various dirt piles while operating heavy machinery, hustled as a line cook, waited tables, bagged groceries, and earning callouses on his hands. Under the tutelage of Scott Grubbs (now Dean of Students, Thomas University), Mr. Mayo was a Nationalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate in New York City. He was also honored to play for Frank Vashaw while serving as Captain/Shortstop for the Coffee High Trojans in the Spring. After high school, he made the trip to Macon and found success at Mercer University. Upon graduation, he accepted Mercer’s offer to attend law school as a Woodruff Scholar, which was and remains the law school’s top academic scholarship.

Mr. Mayo began his legal career as a criminal defense and business litigation attorney to gain valuable experience in the courtroom. After obtaining considerable trial success, Mr. Mayo transferred to civil practice with Martin Snow, LLP, one of the oldest large firms in Georgia. Mr. Mayo represented insurance companies and their insureds in injury cases for years. While working for the insurance companies, Mr. Mayo learned the systems and methods used by adjusters to lower the payouts to those injured by the negligence of others. Mr. Mayo successfully tried numerous jury trials to a defense verdict before being named Partner at Martin Snow, LLP. Mr. Mayo credits his mentors at Martin Snow, LLP for their invaluable training and example.

In 2018, Mr. Mayo co-founded the law firm Mayo Hill in Macon, Georgia, where he and his partner enjoyed many years of success in medical malpractice, business litigation, and real estate. Now, Mr. Mayo uses his knowledge and experience to help individuals achieve the best result from the insurance companies. Mr. Mayo has recovered millions of dollars on behalf of those harmed by others, including seven-figure trial verdicts and recoveries. He has successfully defended his verdicts on appeal. Mr. Mayo has represented the families of those killed by another’s negligence and obtained large confidential settlements. He is experienced in mediation and arbitration, as well, and he routinely advises clients on the benefits and risks of litigation. In cases of great importance or interest, Mr. Mayo serves as lead litigation counsel for various corporations and businesses throughout Georgia. In this capacity, Mr. Mayo has spearheaded deals approaching $1 Billion.

Michael Mayo personally handles his cases at all levels of the courts, successfully representing clients at the trial court level before achieving lasting victory in the Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Supreme Court of Georgia.

While obtaining the maximum recovery for the client is a vital purpose, Mr. Mayo also has a long history of establishing an unbreakable bond with his clients. He understands and bears the weight of responsibility in the most troubling of times. His community and network rely on him for leadership, direction, and a steady hand. Mr. Mayo takes pride in developing friendships and partnerships built to withstand adversity, pain, delay, and grief. He cherishes his role as a counselor, confidant, and trusted adviser.

Outside of work, Mr. Mayo prioritizes time with his wife and three children. He enjoys his tractor time, reading, golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling, and college football. Also, Mr. Mayo’s wife, Dana, is an established physician in Macon. Together, Dana and Michael founded The Barre Dance Studios, which prepares performing artists for college auditions and professional careers in various dance genres. The Barre was recently recognized as Middle Georgia’s Best Dance Studio after receiving the highest honor from the “Best of the Best” annual rating.
